I am so excited for Fall coming up! It has always been my favorite season for many reasons. 1. I have a huge obsession with pumpkin flavored…well everything – Lattes, coffee creamer, muffins! 2. I love fall decorations because it makes any room feel more tranquil and cozy. There’s just something about the warm colors that change your mood. And 3. who doesn’t love when it gets to be sweater and jeans weather?
When a new season comes, I immediately go through my closet to see what I can donate and finally get rid of from last year… aka those jeans I keep telling myself I will fit in again (sighh). Also, as you are doing this, take inventory of what you currently have so you don’t buy additional plaid shirts if you already have 2 that are in great condition. When I realize what I need that’s when I start making a list of those items and a budget that I want to stick to. A big lesson I’ve learned from shopping each season, is to only buy the basics! For example, purchase a few cardigans or tops that you can layer, or splurge on a pair of black booties that you can wear with different outfits. You will be surprised to find out how you can mix + match a few different pieces without having to spend a ton of money. If you are thinking of buying some new items for Fall, I rounded up 12 wardrobe staples that are a must have this season.
1. A scarf: Scarves are a perfect addition to any outfit during the cooler months. I usually opt for a lighter weight scarf during fall and stick to the heavier ones for winter. This leopard print scarf is my favorite since It goes with basic colors and is a big trend right now.
2. A versatile dress: Everyone needs a dress in their closet that can be dressed up or dressed down as needed. This dress from Nordstrom comes in different colors and would look great with a pair of booties, mules, flats, etc. You could put a long cardigan over it for a more casual look, or a faux leather jacket over the top of it for a night out look.
3. Brimmed Hats: A hat adds effortless style to any outfit and it’s perfect for the days when you don’t want to wash your hair (am I right ladies?!). I usually buy my brimmed hats from Urban Outfitters since they are fairly priced and hold up well throughout the year. This brimmed hat has a pretty weave detailing with a faux leather accent strap and it’s only $34! It also comes in three different colors.
4. An Everday Tee: Whenever I find a t-shirt that I love, I make sure to buy them in multiple (neutral) colors. This t-shirt from Nordstrom is hands down one of my favorite purchases this year and it’s only $17. It’s soft, lightweight, and is not “clingy”. This shirt just drapes so well and looks great with a long cardigan and a pair of jeans. I bought it in a size small and it runs TTS.
5. Booties: They are a huge must have for fall. I usually splurge on a few neutral colored booties (black, brown, white) that I can mix and match with different outfits. The nice thing about booties is they go well with jeans, leggings, or dresses. When looking for booties, I make sure that they have a sturdy, blocked heel. It’s also important that they are a little tighter around your ankle than the average boots you own. If you are looking for an edgier look, I would go with these embossed leather booties. If you are wanting more of a basic color, then these blocked heel booties will be a great addition and they come in 4 neutral shades.
6. Moto Jacket: I get so excited for when I can finally pull out my moto jackets! Over the years I started to invest in different colors, just because it was so easy to throw on and dress up any look. It’s also one of those items that you can wear with a dress or jeans and a t-shirt. I’m in love with this faux leather moto jacket from Urban and it’s currently on sale for $49.99.
7. Oversized Cardigans: Cardigans are my favorite year round because I am always cold when I go out. I make sure to look for one that’s neutral in color so that it’s more versatile and fits in with the rest of my wardrobe. I usually opt for grey, black, or navy.
8. Faux Leather Leggings: Leggings are another staple that I usually wear year round, but during fall I love the Faux leather look. They are also a versatile piece that you can wear with a plain t-shirt and sneakers or with a coat and booties. I recently purchased a similar look to these faux leather leggings from Spanx. I love the textured moto detailing!
9. A Pair of Mules: I have recently fell in love with the mule trend. It adds a classic look to any outfit and can be worn with distressed jeans or even dress pants for work. I purchased these Steve Madden studded mules in the black and mustard colors from the Anniversary Sale.
10. A great pair of jeans: Finding a pair of your favorite jeans are important during fall and winter since it starts to get cooler. During this time, I try to make sure I have a few colors/styles to be able to dress them with different pieces throughout the year. I opt for black jeans, a few distressed jeans, an olive colored pair, and a dark/light wash pair. I buy most of my jeans from American Eagle and Express.
11. Plaid tops: This pattern in any form is a must for fall. I prefer to buy plaid tops because they go well as a top or they are easy to put over a t-shirt for an edgier look. I tend to buy my plaid tops from Old Navy and AE because they stay in good condition and I can usually purchase them on sale. This Plaid Twill shirt from Old Navy comes in 4 different colors and is on sale right now for $28.
12. Statement Earrings: I try and find a reason to wear statement earrings all year long because they really do make a difference to any outfit. My go to shop for statement earrings is BaubleBar. These flower stud earrings are a perfect addition to any fall outfit and comes in multiple colors. If you are looking for hoops, then these lightweight earrings transition easily from the office to a night out with the girls!
I hope you all found this post helpful! Happy Fall Shopping!!
